Why Old Unofficial Telegram Clients Can Stop Working After Mandatory Updates

blindGram reported a temporary service interruption on December 4, 2021, after Telegram required unofficial clients to move to a newer source-code version.

Telegram clients communicate with a changing network protocol and service API. When Telegram makes a newer client version mandatory, an app built on an older codebase can no longer connect reliably even when its accessibility features still work locally.

The blindGram team advised users to keep access through official Telegram while a compatible blindGram build was prepared. Existing license time was preserved during the interruption. This event explains why accessible Telegram forks must continually merge upstream releases instead of remaining on one stable version forever.
