blindGram 6.1 brought accessible YouTube playback to Telegram
blindGram 6.1 Final, released July 14, 2020, fixed 6.0 issues and added accessible YouTube playback, 48 kHz voice recording, and new folder settings.
This is an archived release announcement. Version 6.0 had just moved the fork onto Telegram 6.2 with chat previews, folders, and media seeking. 6.1 followed twelve days later with the fixes that round of feedback called for, plus a set of smaller additions. The settings named here have moved and been renamed since, so the current blindGram Area documentation is the place to look for where they live today.
Video and voice
- YouTube videos could be played inside the app, in a player you can operate with a screen reader.
- Voice messages could be recorded at up to 48 kHz, and a new quality setting let you choose a higher recording quality than Telegram's default. Today that is the Voice Quality (Sample Rate) row on the Media page.
Reading and status
- Holding your finger on a link copied it.
- The app began announcing user status changes on its own, such as the other person coming online or typing.
- Two new switches let you turn off blindGram's message processing and its emoji processing if you preferred Telegram's plain reading.
Chats and folders
- Chats could open in preview mode by default, and the listened state of voice messages stayed hidden while you were in a preview. The preview option is still there as Open chats in preview mode on the Chats page.
- You could add a chat to a folder or remove it from one directly, and pick a default folder for the app to return to.
Languages and fixes
- Ukrainian was added to the app languages.
- Creating a group, swiping, and deleting a message for both sides were fixed.
