# Telegram login codes and blindGram: how to sign in since 2023

Since February 2023, Telegram sends SMS login codes only to its official app. Here is how to sign in to blindGram on a new phone anyway.

### What Telegram changed

On February 18, 2023, Telegram stopped sending the SMS with the sign-in or registration code unless the request came from its official app. An unofficial client such as blindGram can still accept a code, but it can no longer ask Telegram to text one to you. When your account is already signed in somewhere else, Telegram delivers the code to that session as a message instead, and that code works in blindGram exactly as before.

The accessibility community shared this notice on February 22, 2023, a few days after the change took effect.

### Signing in on a new phone

1. Still signed in on your old phone? Keep it within reach. Enter your number in blindGram on the new phone, and the code arrives as a Telegram message on the old one. Type it into blindGram.
2. No signed-in device at all? Install the official Telegram app on the new phone first and sign in there. Because that request comes from the official app, the SMS arrives normally.
3. Now open blindGram and enter the same number. This time the code comes as a Telegram message inside the official app. Copy or type it into blindGram.
4. Keep the official app installed as a spare. The next time Telegram needs to send you a code, it has somewhere to deliver it.

### Never share the login code

A login code is the key to your account. Nobody needs it except you, not a friend who offers to help and not anyone claiming to be from blindGram or Telegram. Our [terms page](/terms/) says the same in one line: never share your login code.

### The sign-in screen has the last word

Telegram has changed its sign-in rules before and will again. Whatever this article says, the text on blindGram's own sign-in screen describes what Telegram expects right now, so follow it when the two disagree.
