# blindGram added Russian and Spanish for screen reader users

On July 2, 2020 blindGram announced Russian and Spanish interface languages beside Persian and English, translated by members of its community.

### Why translated labels matter

With a screen reader, a control is only as good as its spoken name. A sighted person can guess what an icon does. You hear the label, and if that label is in a language you do not read, the setting might as well not be there. Translating blindGram's own settings and action names is accessibility work, not decoration.

### Who did the translations

The work came from the community. The announcement thanked Slann Tonić for the Spanish translation and Ali Panjei for the English one. Russian was announced in the same update.

### Where it stands today

blindGram's own labels now ship in twelve languages, Russian and Spanish among them, and the **Force Change Language** row under General makes sure the language you pick is used even where Telegram would keep the system language.
